Geoffrey Leggett is a law enforcement officer, having served in that role since 1983. Mr. Leggett served 24 years with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, retiring in 2008. Highlights of his career include serving as the Basic Training Academy Commander, Investigations Commander, Patrol Commander, and Tactical Operations Unit Supervisor.

In 2008 he went to work as the Coordinator for Law Enforcement Training at Glendale Community College. This position involved the operation of a police academy and the coordination of advanced officer training programs as well as civilian firearms programs. In 2011 he came to work for the City of Surprise Police Department, now serving as the Assistant Chief of Police. The Surprise Police Department has 210 employees serving approximately 129,000 citizens

Mr. Leggett holds a bachelor's Degree in Police Science and Administration as well as a Masters's Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. Mr. Leggett is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 219th Session. He has served as an adjunct faculty member of Glendale Community College, Rio Salado College, and Estrella Mountain Community College as well as a long-time instructor for the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) board. He has participated in multi-media productions for Arizona POST as well as California POST serving as a subject matter expert in the areas of leadership, officer survival, high-risk vehicle stops, and critical

incident stress management. Mr. Leggett is a member and trainer for the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation assisting individuals who have been involved in critical incidents. In 1995 he formed a Critical Incident Stress Management Team for the Sheriff’s Office and has helped many other agencies form teams and respond to critical incidents. In October of 2001, he coordinated the response of Arizona law enforcement personnel to Ground Zero to work with members of the New York City Police Department and help them cope with the September 11th disaster.

Geoff serves as a member of the executive board for the Arizona Chapter of FBI National Academy Associates. In this role, he serves as the director of the Arizona Leadership Education and Development (ALEAD) program. The ALEAD program is designed to provide high school-age youth with the basics of understanding and practicing leadership principles.
