Denise J. Thompson received an MSW from Florida State University and is a Licensed Independent Social Worker (Iowa).  Through Crisis Response Consulting™, she provides intervention, management, and training for responding to the psychological aftermath of critical incidents.  A Lt. Col in the Air Force Reserve, she was recently de-mobilized after 8 years of active duty and two deployments.  She continues to serve as a reservist assigned to the Air Force Personnel Center, Randolph AFB, TX.  Lt Col Thompson was activated after Sept 11, 2001, to serve as Chief of Behavioral Health with the Surgeon General’s Office, for the Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC).  In that position, she was responsible for the implementation and oversight of the following programs: Behavioral Health, Suicide, and Violence Prevention, Post-Suicide Review, Critical Incident Stress Management, and Operational and Post-deployment Stress. Lt Col Thompson provided oversight and training for over 200 AFRC personnel, military and civilian, who are part of the AFRC CISM team. Prior to recall to active duty following 11 Sep 2001, she was in private practice providing services to adults and children who were affected by traumatic events, a contract provider for the Veterans’ Administration, and an Employee Assistance Program provider for the US Postal Service. 

Lt Col Thompson presents on a variety of topics for military and civilian personnel regarding suicide prevention, intervention and postvention, workplace violence, Critical Incident Stress Management, combat/operational stress management, post-traumatic stress disorder, and sexual assault prevention and response.  Lt Col Thompson teaches several International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) courses, is on the ICISF faculty, and is co-author of the Suicide Prevention, Intervention, and Postvention course.  She has provided crisis response following plane crashes, line-of-duty deaths and injuries, homicides, suicides, grocery and bank robberies, and natural disasters.
