Best Practices for Death Notifications

Course Outline

Students will learn how to appropriately give death notifications. We explore how to recognize and assess the emotional state of those receiving a death notification before, during and after hearing such news. Special focus is given to pre-notification strategic planning; common grief and trauma responses typically seen; providing immediate appropriate care; and, utilizing adequate resources for ongoing care.

This course is designed for emergency services personnel and chaplains.
